sorted the spec for my new atom, but still undecided on the finish - planning trans black on maple but not sure which type of maple to specify. Anyone got any advice?

Trans Black looks great both flame and quilt, I think. But it might have to be the right quilt, like this one at Wildwood (http://wildwoodguitars.com/electrics/anderson/09.26.05a/09.26.05a.html): http://wildwoodguitars.com/electrics/anderson/09.26.05a/09.26.05a_sl.jpg

I think there were some pics of an incredible Atom around not long ago. It reminded me of this Charcoal Burst PRS PS:

Good luck choosing.

Check my signature. My Cobra is freaking sweet. I'm digging the trans black a lot. Here's another pic. Not as much natural light as the pic in my sig, but it's still good.

hi and thanks for the pic. - looks really great - which maple is that - it looks a bit more subtle than the standard quilt?

Yeah, I'm pretty sure it's just a quilt. I really like it. It's really beautiful, but subtle enough that I can play the dang thing without being distracted. Also, looking closely, I can see patches and smears of a brownish color that makes it look a little more organic I think. I really feel that this is a better pic because the guitar is in more direct light:

I think it's the best quilt I've seen then - I'm just sorting the spec on a new atom and I was worried that the quilt often tends to have a very large open grain which might not go so well with the smaller atom shape. Yours seems a lot more subtle than most I've seen so far - congratulations  !

Thanks, man! I'm pretty sure that whatever piece of wood they choose to make your top out of, it'll be killer. Good luck with your decision, and please post some pics of what you end up with for the rest of us to drool over. I will say that I like flames on Atoms more than quilts. To me, flame on an Atom defines the shape a little more. Atom's smooth and curvy body just looks better with a sharp, tight flame instead of a wavy water-in-motion quilt. Just my opinion.

the atom body is not smaller, it is as wide as a T, and longer by almost 2 inches.

don't feel bad, most think les pauls look small too. they are about the same length and width.
