I recently discovered that a Hollow T Classic without contours does not work very well for me as far as how it hangs on a strap. Do contours make a big difference in the way a guitar hangs? I remember some Cobras I had a while back not having this issue so much.

i don't know that contours make as mych difference as the body shape does. tele's hang away from your body where starts hang into your body. it's a question of where the strap attaches at the horn end. growing up it took me years to figure out that this is the reason i always felt uncomfortable with strats but liked les pauls and teles. the other issue is balance. because the horn is shorter on the tele, they cna get neck heavy easier than a strat shape.

never thought of that, but it's very true even with my lightest htc. funny enough with my atom it hang down to my knees and just feels good. i get many positive comments on the neck angle. for me the angle is where the comfort lives.

Both of my T-Classics, one hollow, the other not, have contours. Like Tom, I much prefer Tele-style bodies, both because of how they hang on a strap and because the controls don't get in my way. On the other hand, Tele-style bodies kill my ribs and right forearm--I play with the guitar pretty high up on my chest. A contoured Tele-style body is the best of both worlds. I knew, when I first strapped on my HTC, that I had found exactly what I was looking for in terms of comfort (as well as playability and tone, obviously!). I do have a '78 Tele that plays well and gets "that" sound, but I don't spend much time playing it--you should see the indent in my right forearm when I'm done with it!

If anyone is interested, pics of those guitars are here. There are some other guitars and some basses there as well--just scroll past them if they don't interest you!
