Hi Tom,

Any bike racing fans at the shop? Thousand Oaks is host to the finish of Saturdays Stage 6 (http://www.amgentourofcalifornia.com/Route/stages/stage6.html) of the Tour of California (http://www.amgentourofcalifornia.com).

Rare opportunity to see some of the premiere riders in world cycling compete in the US and a fun event to watch and join in the festivities at the finish line :D

If your're not a cycling fan, be prepared for traffic tie ups Saturday Afternoon along the route :p

we are surrounded by amgen, so i'll be staying clear of the shop on saturday. roy is a bike fan, and has a spot all set for watching the festivities.

I just google mapped your shop and the Amgen headquarters-
Wow- you are super close! Less than a mile away from the swarm of media, sponsors, cycling paparazzi, team vans, lycra and hi tech composite bikes to descend on the area Saturday :D

My 'other' money pit:

(Let's see, there's the fleet of sea kayaks, the bicycles, the guitars and pedal steels, the amps. Retirement? Looks like that just ain't gonna happen.....).

Wow, a bicycle porn thread on a guitar forum! I posted these on BaM, but looks like they'll be more appreciated here. These are of my new Waterford.

I've almost got it built up, just need the front derailleur. I took it to the bike shop today to weigh it - 19.5 pounds without pump or seatbag, and that's pretty dang good for a lugged steel frame and fork.

Unfortunately, I've learned that the paint is exremely fragile. I've already had to touch up a chip on the fork, and today I ruined the top tube. I leaned it against a pole to open the door, and it rolled backward, scraping the top tube. The paint chipped all the way to the steel, and rippled.

If I hadn't had such an ordeal with Waterford to get the thing in the first place (had to send it back once for a completely botched pinstriping job, and it took 5 months) I'd send it back and demand a repaint. But I have no desire to ever deal with that company again. [comic book guy]Worst customer service ever.[/comic book guy]

But it is really nice looking, despite the gouges. Haven't even ridden it yet, though.

Oh, yeah, I also have a Merlin Cyrene. No pics, but it's quite nice. Gotta love great Ti!

That is some lovely lug work! Love that classic chrome!

Sorry to hear about the unsatisfactory paint/service from Waterford although
Ive only heard positive comments on their frame design and performance.

What other components are you building with?

Not chrome - polished stainless steel.

The frame design and performance are probably excellent, but Waterford's paint and customer service are substandard.

I built it up with a Dura Ace triple drivetrain & brakes, Chris King headset, Thomson Masterpiece seatpost & X2 stem, Avocet O2 saddle, Ritchey bar, Cane Creek Volos wheels, Vittoria Open Corsa tires, and Speedplay X1 pedals.

Oh my gosh,

The bike race did come right through Newbury Park and the final laps of stage 6 came right down Lawrence—the same street we all drive down to access Lavery Court—the street where Anderson Guitarworks is located—so fun!

We walked from there to the finish line and saw the awards presentations—and all the other festivities.

Before that, we found a nice spot at the top of the final climb—the top of the Norwegian Grade. It was like a big street party as everyone waited for the race to pass that point. The hope is that the hill will slow them enough that you can experience the race for a few moments longer than you would otherwise. Finally, they came into view as they turned the corner and came up the steep hill. As an entire group they flew by us. It left everyone on the side of the road standing in awe at the speed at which these riders were able to negotiate the hill. Sort of like being at a big-venue rock concert for the first time. It is bigger than life—fast!

Also we got a quick glimpse of Lance Armstrong in the Team Discovery car. When I say quick I mean quick, like: “Was that him? I think so.”

Next year I am thinking of setting up my gear and with Anderson in hand playing, “Born To Be Wild,” as they crest the hill—or maybe not.

This is fun! Perhaps this is the only site that not only offers guitar porn but bicycle porn as well. Makes me wonder what other hobbies are out there? Anbody out there rebuilding any MOPARS?
