My main rigg that I use most is fairly simple. It's a Matchless DC30 loaded with only NOS tubes (Mullards and Teslas) with a Hotplate. I use a GCX loop switcher to choose either channel 1, 2 or both at the same time. Some presets with different combinations of pedals, channels and a PodXTPro (for FX only, no simulation), but I also have full instant access to each of the loops and effects. One thing that's really cool is that I run a stereo jack into the rack, and one of the signals carry the piezo from the Fishman bridge. This signal is put to one of the loops and goes directly to the PA, so I can switch between magnetic and piezo signals (or even combine them) with a single preset recall. I mainly (80% of the time) use the pentode channel of the Matchless with effects bypassed and sometimes throw the OCD in.

Man, what great looking rigs. Yngve, that Matchless looks awesome.
Right now, my main amp is a Groove Tubes Soul-O 75, complete with bright red tolex and knobs and red swirlies on the grill. I've got EL-34s in it for the time being, but it can take about everything out there with the same socket and even EL-84s with special adapters. I'm probably going to get an Intellifex for the extra rackspace. This thing as a combo weighs 70 (!) lbs., so I'm also looking to put it in a rack box. Any suggestions for who to go through for this? Here's the amp:
http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b89/olectric/IMG_0976.jpg
I'm running it through a Bogner Cube for most shows and for church. It sounds great through the Cube, and with it I can control my volume (or at least which direction my volume goes).
I also just picked up a VHT Pittbull 45, and I'm liking it more and more. Don't have a pic of it by itself. It's a quad-EL-84 amp, and sounds great for on-the-edge-of-breakup tones. I don't like the higher gain settings on it; I find them to be a little fizzy on top.

Thanks! It sounds fantastic! I find myself more and more just plugging the guitars straight into channel 2 with nothing in between and leave the rack at home. Oh, I forgot to mention: The back of the rack that doesn't show holds a complete in-ear wireless monitoring and multi cable for all signals (piezo, mag, 2 mics for the combo, 1 vocal mic, 2 lines of monitoring for the in-ear and a PodXt line out for emergencies). It's really quick to set up on shows.

What is that little doo-hickey between the Strat and the LP on the floor?
that'd be a variac. drops the voltage hitting the PT to whatever you want. on the vintage, non-MV guys, it's good to be at 105-110v. EVH used to drop it to 85-90V. some folk claim that causes "cathode stripping". I say maybe, but the TONE.....!!
BTW, NICE Herbert. I'm gonna pick me up one soon!
mike.
i heard from a friend who would know that ed would turn the voltage down till the pilot light would go out, then turn it up just a bit.

Eddie is one of my fav's.
And after ALLLLL these years reading about his Variac I'd never even thought to wonder what it was or looked like.
I guess I just assumed that it was like a cap or resistor he had modded into the amp.
Learn something new everyday.
You'll like the Herbert. I've only had it for a short while and when I first got it I was using some of the factory settings for a starting point on figuring out what I wanted it to do.
Its way more versitile than I expected. WAY. And compared to the Mark IV I was using prior to that, the volume is SO much more user friendly.
Its 180 watts which the thought of made me  , but since the sweep of the volume knob is so smooth and effective you can go from whisper to RAGE with ease.
By comparison, the Mark only had a range of about 1/4" and talk about HARD to dial in a decent volume level. It was either ON LOUD or buzzy low. Nothing in between.
...still in the honeymoon stage though, so things are blissful for now.

How do you like your Mini Z?
I love my MIni Z. I use it a lot around the house. As it ages and gets broken in I find I get quite a lot of varied tone from it a low levels. Amp Knob at 12 and vary the volume on the guitar. A recent retube has just mad it sweeter.

My Soul-O 75 combo (which has 1 12" Celestion) weighs in at a morbidly obese 70 lbs. It's brutal. I think the chassis alone is 45 lbs or so. And it only has two power tubes! I think the trannies are made of tungsten or something...

Jeez Mike...I'm wondering...do you like regularly have Judas Priest over to your house for informal jams? The second question I have is how often do you have the handyman over to fix the walls after you, K.K., and Glen get done jamming? :p
Tom, I'm telling ya (contrary to what everyone says about 100W amps), w/ the proper mods, you CAN have great tone at decent volume. Mark Cameron here in LA does wonderful work. The 3 heads on the right are all modded (78 JMP2203, 81 JCM800 2203 and the frankenhead 2203). We use them for cover and corporate gigs. Best part? A Cobra or DT through a modded Marshall is ear-gasmic! :D
Regarding the OTHER heads, those NEVER leave the house. TOO loud, TOO valuable, and TOO heavy! BTW, Hellion/Electric Eye sounds good through ANY Marshall.

In order to post pics, you need to have a host somewhere (they need to "live" on a web site or server). Then you can click on the little yellow mountain with the sun image in the tool bar above, paste in the address of the pic and your done.

And speaking of expense - Jay, I owe you big time. I'm glad you left the shop when you did so you didn't have to see me blubber.

Ok - here we go.......I am currently playing a Kendrick built Trainwreck/Climax amp. One of the more controversial amps ever made - I have been really happy with mine. Based on a modified Deluxe Reverb that Ken Fischer had modified for a friend, it has a nice BF Fender Channel and a useless "Express" channel. It is a really consistant amp - always sounds the same regardless of the venue - loves pedals and goes from clean to "my amp is going to blow up" sounds with a tubescreamer (and sometimes adding a Fulldrive II).
A good friend and fellow bandmember had ordered one and the day he got it he plugged in - tried it out and ordered a second one (which I bought from him). I was able to bypass all of the "press" the amp was getting and try it out for myself.....I've never had my checkbook out faster !!

Dr Z Maz 38 senior with one 12" alnico Tone Tubby. Great all around amp. I also really like my Evans jazz amp. I've got a ton of vintage amps and plug into them now and then just to remember what they sound like. The Z and the Evans are really better amps than all of them except my old Tweed Bassmans which are a thing of their own.
After using the Evans for a couple of years I bought a VHT Pittbull 45, really couldn't get along with it. After that I bought a Randall RM50 with the interchangeable preamps. Pretty nice amp, liked it better than the VHT. After I got the Z I just use the Randall for rehearsal. I need to sell it now.
I got out my 1976 Gibson L-5 CES this weekend and restrung it. Played it around the house for a couple of days and then put it away again. For some reason it has better action than my Anderson but I still prefer the Anderson. Now if Tom would only make me a 25-1/2" scale Atom!
what makes you think i haven't ;) i have been doing a lot of making funny guitars lately to try different materials with the "wrong" scale length. it's funny how if the guitar shape and materials are familiar, people don't even notice that the scale is "wrong". you probably won't be seeing any longer scale atoms any time soon. one of the hard things about being a manufacturer is that you have to keep focused on what you like, which is of course totally subjective. i feel like if we offered every shape with every bridge and every pickup, and every scale and every wood combination, it would be even more confusing than it already is for people to decide what they should get. it would also be more confusing when you see or even play someones guitar to know what you were really seeing or playing. someone's got so set some boundries, and at least for us it will be me for now.

I'm a believer in following one's own path and I salute you for it. Guitars, amps, music and life designed by committees would be very dull and bland. We need the individual to do what he thinks is right. Your success is a perfect example.
Okay, I won't hold my breath for a long scale Atom. I'm perfectly happy with my Drop Top T with the '62 Roundback neck. For me it's the most perfect guitar I've ever had or played yet!

Thanks for the tip. About 10 years ago I switched from 24-3/4 scale guitars to 25-1/2 and now I can't go back. Different tension and harmonics. I've got a lot of guitars that i don't use anymore partly because of that. the other reason is they aren't as good as my drop top T!
