Wow.

Bought this from a forum member on The Gear Page out of the Emporium there, (thanks Phil!) and got it yesterday.

A few hours of setup/clean up and playing - a slight truss rod adjustment again today - and bam; this thing is amazing. 6lbs. 9ozs. of tone. Plays like a dream.

The Buzz Feiten Tuning System indeed takes a different touch; but it is remarkable to play a guitar this nice with that system.

An utter pleasure and my new funk band machine - the go-to guitar for that genre in my stable. Can't wait to get it out there!

And, btw, Koa goooooooooooooooood!

You beat me to the guitar by about an hour. I hestitated before I made an offer and you snuck in!

Tom actually set me up with a friend who had the first Koa HDTC made. I made a deal with him and should be receiving mine tommorrow (Thursday). I showed Jack Gretz a picture of the Koa Andy I'm getting. He totally freaked out over the top!

Hey, what's up w/ all of the Koa Top discussions that've been happening lately? Brian Swerdferger's Koa gets sold, now this one from the gearpage....

Am I sensing a trend? or is it something that I've just been unaware of?

Please educate the ignorant - what's the magic w/ Koa? I've heard that Koa's similar to maple, but w/ an emphasis on the upper mids. Any thoughts on overall tonal impact?

I'm not sure what the trend is, but I do know that Tom said there was a huge shortage thus preventing him for the time being, of using it on his guitars. I also heard Taylor has stopped using Koa too. Looks like I better buy up some of those koa ukes so that I can sell them 10 years from now on Ebay!! Ha!

hmmm....thanks for the insights Mark. Looks like I'll be extra good this year, and ask Santa to search out a used, but good condition, DT w/ a Koa top for me ;)

I have been a freak for Koa since I was a kid, so it is no part of any trend for me.

Koa only grows in Hawaii; no where else in the world. I find it the most beautiful wood in the world.

Tonally it is like a mix between maple and mahogany to me - my all koa acoustics actually mellow in tone as you play harder. I find it very cool.

Scott's guitars and your guitars are some of the nicest koa grains I've seen! Even the courthouses over here don't have koa like that!

I also have been a Koa-nut for a long time. My first Koa guitar was a Melancon Pro Artist T with a Koa top. This was followed by a Koa-Topped hamer Mirgae which I purchased from - Scott Peterson!

Presently, there are 2 Koa Guitars in my immediate future. I purchased the first Koa HDTC made form Brian Swerdfeger (sp?) and it is due to be delivered today (Thursday) at my door!

Jack Gretz is currently finishing a Koa topped alder Strat body with a 4A piece of Koa. He has finished the staining and will be shooting the clear coat when he returns from NAMM.

I share Scott's love for the beauty of Koa - I could look at it all day!
