I have a HDTC (07-22-05Y) with alder body, maple fretboard, SA1/SA1R/H2+. I find the SA's to be a bit too "modern" or "ninety's" if you know what I mean, and I use them only in split mode. So I'm thinking about replacing them with VA12. Now the H2+ is always in series but my brother has a HDTC where the H2+ can be split, and I like the option of splitting the H2+. So here's what I'm thinking about a new PU setup:

Mini-toggle up: VA1 and split H2+
Mini-toggle down: VA2 and full H2+

Now the 5-way would work as normal: N, NM, M, MB and B, but the mini-toggle will switch between VA1 and VA2 option of the VA12, split H2+ and full H2+.

Can this be done just by replacing the SA's with VA12 and do some rewiring?

How do you think the combination of VA1 and split H2+ and VA2 and full H2+ will work sonically with the hollow alder body? Will there be much difference in output between the humbucker and the VA's with this setup?

the mini switch will need some reworking, but it can do what you ask. you will want a va12 in the middle and a va12R in the neck.

Do you think the va1 will work well with the split h2+ and va2 with full h2+? Is this some kind of weird configuration that's never been done before? The idea is to go to a fuller tone with the mini-switch.

I guess it would be ok to use the va2 config in neck for a more texas style...

we shipped a guitar today that was equipped exactly that way. it worked very nicely.

Ok, seems like I'll replace the PU's with VA12.

So how do I do the wiring? Do I need another mini-toggle with more poles?
