View Full Version : and now for something completely different...custom paint job > Hagar the Horrible

Hello everyone:

In the spirit of "wow, what is that?" I thought I'd offer this guitar up for your viewing pleasure.

It started life as a Hollow T (07-30-04A).....and then the original owner had a well-known artist do a custom paint job on it.

Background: the original owner commissioned the illustrator of "Hagar the Horrible" to paint his guitar. This dreamy landscape painting is done with real oil-based paint....not your normal poly-coated guitar finish. It's as though you are playing a painting!

If you look closely at the upper right hand side of the body, you'll see the original owner's likeness!

It sounds like your normal TA guitar...full, rich, punchy...and plays effortlessly. It's just when you bring it out, people say "wow, what is that!?"

Cheers - -

Hello Tombo:

I did as you suggested. The only item I could find is as follows;

"可愛そうな kawaisou(na) : poor, pitiful, sad, sorrowful, miserable..."

surely you are not using this definition of the term, are you? Because that would border on an insult...so what does the term mean, as you've used it?

Ricardo, i like the idea of "playing a painting." Dont mind the insults. It is a lot easier to try and tear something down than to put effort into recognizing the beauty that is in everything.

i love it, it's totally cool with me. we may not all like the same thing, in fact it's a good thing we don't, it would be a pretty boring world.

Ok, this thread is not going well for me.

First the initial comments, and now I'm slow on the uptake - e.g. I finally "got it" ?

Jeez, if I stick around this post long enough, I wonder what'll happen next......

I think it's really cool. Excellent graphics. I would never have thought to do that to one of my guitars, but that's just me. Sir Ricardo, how does the neck M1 sound with the VA1 (?) in the middle? Can you get some decent quacky strat tones, or does it sound altogether different?

Guys guys guys...........

As I was appointed Deputy Of Excitement by Roy some time ago (or a title something similar to that), I finally decided to exercise my duty. I PM-ed Richard and he finally "got it", but it wasn't surprising to see other TA Forum members come to his defense.

I know - it's all good, and I sincerely believe that. It's just.....well...it's just....it's just that sometimes it gets a little....shall we say "slow" around here so SOMEBODY has got to stir the shirt up sometime.

OK....enough excitement for now. Go back to all the informative posts and being nice and considerate.

Is this the appropriate thread to ask Tom if I can order a "furry" Atom (ala ZZTop) :p

bud, if I were you, I'd go for it (don't let anyone stand between you and your bliss), but based on my experience, I wouldn't tell anyone....kinda like the army, you know, "don't ask, don't tell"..... :)

+1 on the "keeping it on the QT"

It would spoil the surprise when it shows up on GOTW

Tombo thanks for the dice suggestion.

Now I just need to choose the color. Maybe Fuzzy Shaded Edge, but Sparkle Fuzz could be cool, or keeping with the season, Sheer Flock

Tombo:

I've GOT the fuzzy dice! Oh my god, I could have avoided these slings and arrows, had I just had the guts to show my guitar in its gig-ready condition. And it does look cool, with the dice hanging down, and the lit cigarette smoldering on the headstock.

I just didn't think y'all could handle it. Now I know better.

I've learned my lesson. Full disclosure is the only way to go.

did this get missed?

Hello olectric:

Yes indeed I did not see your post. Sorry about that, and it's a good question you've asked.

The "in-between" position (between the M and VA) does not sound at all like an out of phase strat sound, to my ears. The M is relatively rich sounding, the VA has vintage chime (along with vintage buzz), and the combination sounds like....1/2 M, and 1/2 VA, which is to say you hear the chime and buzz from the VA, and the richness of the M. Almost as though you somehow just audio-blended 1/2 of each's signal with the other.

You don't hear the "hollowness" or "quack" that you would with a strat, in that in-between position, to my ears anyway. As much as I love each pickup individually, I haven't been drawn to the combination sound.

Perhaps someone else has been drawn to that sound. Anyone want to chime in?

cheers, olectric, thanks for the question - -

I bet that's a great sounding ax, as all Anderson's reliably seem to be, but I have to honestly say that looking at it makes me feel both sleepy and dreamy...

"looking at it makes me feel both sleepy and dreamy..."

Well, you could use it as a Nyquil substitute.....non habit-forming and all that...
