A friend that I play with is looking for a bass guitar that is basically a Precision-style bass with a Jazz-style neck. Is there an Anderson-like company that makes basses that he should look into?

Lakland made some of the Bob Glaub models (basically their take on the P bass) with a Jazz-spec 1.5" nut width. I've played one that was actually a Skyline series (Korean made line from Lakland) that was very, very good. They don't offer that option in the Skyline model anymore, but they still do for the US made Glaubs.
Here's some info I'm talking about: Bob Glaub info (http://www.lakland.com/basses/glaub.htm)

I would think that John Suhr could also accomodate the request from his shop. I know Lull puts together some basses like that, too.

I know I had been hoping our friends in Newbury Park would venture into this field. But, alas, their skills are still focused on the fine, fine representation of the shorter-scale, higher pitched, six stringed apparatus. :D
*Hint*, *hint*; *wink*, *wink* ;) ;) :D

+3 on the Lakland. My 4-94 feels like a hybrid jazz bass & stingray. They are to basses what Andys are to the guitar realm.

I would also add Mr. Don Grosh to the mix. He makes gorgeous 4 and 5 string basses, finished in pure nitro lacquer. His instrument output is low and the attention to detail and tone is in the same league as Anderson. He buys, hand selects and tap tunes all his tone woods. Plus, he is a super nice guy, again, on the same level as Roy and Tom. Check out his J4 or P4, and have the Fralin/Aguilar electronics package installed. His stuff is everybit as good as any Pre-CBS Fender from a vibe/resonance standpoint, plus effortless playability. He has recently moved his shop to Colorado, so look to see his production increase a little bit. I have personally played a few of his basses and they are stellar!

My friend ended up going to many many stores to find an American Fender Precision bass that didn't have problems.
