Hello everyone...

I have come down to 2 dream guitars! I need a push. First let me say I am still somewhat of a begginer playing so my style and preference can be molded. I enjoy blues and some classic rock, as well as real classic rock (Berry and Holly). However I do rip Sabbath once in a while. I play for my personal enjoyment and am not looking to gig or beat a guitar up. So after about 6 months of looking I am going with an Anderson... and now, which one... A Drop Top T or a Cobra (solid or hollow is fine) I am thinking a H S H combo for the T or a H H or M M H for the Cobra. Please give feedback, I'm stuck! And yes, I tried them both and honestly both feel like they were made for me. If you have pictures of your examples, please email to petegn@hotmail.com I have seen every pic on this site!

And thank you for running a site which educates and showcases

Pete G

welcome pete, both of those would do you proud. the drop top t will be a bit more versitile, and do the strat sounds better. i'd go with the one you feel most comfortable on. if you've had a chance to play both, was there one you just didn't want to put down? that's the winner for me.

my andy is a drop top hollow t classic HSH and i've spend some time with an MMH atom, so i'll chime in. for me, it'd come down to the wood selection and the feel. some people seem to be either short scale or long scale but not both; other folks seem comfortable on either. i've always played the 25 1/2 but i loved the feel of the atom i played.

my hollow t is quilted maple on basswood. i've discovered that i'm more of a traditional woods guy. especially if you're going for a classic rockish sound. i get some nice singlecoil tones from my andy but i can't make the basswood sound like alder.

(also, as far as the PUs go, i'm probably going to get my T retrofitted for an MMH configuration. the only time i use the neck HB is when i play jazz and i think the M will be fat enough to get a nice jazz tone. and the Ms just kill.)

I could not believe the sound of the M's myself. I was fortunate enough to try a few Andys at a show in Philly as well as a few stores in the area. Those pickups are smokin!!! That may be a perfect T.

Hi Petegn,

It is clear to me that you must have a full sized humbucker in the bridge so you can jump into Sabbath with no holds barred. As for Holly tone—who is certainly one of the very foundations of Rock & Roll—twin Ms are needed—no question there if you still want to also be able to cover Chuck too. So, best prescription is Hollow T Drop Top or Drop Top T with MMH.

Have fun & Happy Playing,
