Tonight was a good night. We had a big band show at K-State. The orchestra I played with performed these charts:

Song For My Father
Loop 360
Some Samba
A Blues For Dave

I got to take a couple turns through the last tune. It was so much fun! I played the Atom, and according to the director (who is an EXCELLENT guitarist), it sounded very Larry Carlton.

The only drawback of the evening was that I had to play through a SolidState Peavey amp with a 12" Carvin speaker. The Atom sounded awesome as usual. It's a much more versatile guitar than I thought it would be. Here's a pic of the rhythm section during my solo:

Wow! Playing guitar in a suit! And it's not even a wedding gig!

Interestingly, two weekends ago, I also had to play my Cobra S through a Peavey solid state amp at a gig. This was a Katrina benefit with a whole bunch of bands on the bill. The amp (and the rest of the stage set-up) belonged to a Tejano band. To make it even more strange, they had all the amps mic'ed up and pointed directly at each player -- essentially just using them as monitors -- so all I really heard was me.

Back to the Peavey amp -- it was an old model (probably early 1980's) and it sounded pretty darn crappy. The reverb had 2 settings: "off" and "way too much." I did NOT sound like Larry Carlton ;)

Good luck with that Atom.

Trust me--I didn't sound like LC either, but my director thought the guitar did! That amp was terrible, but the Atom just happens to be awesome enough to compensate for it. I would have taken my GT amp, but it's too heavy to lug across campus in a suit jacket while carrying a guitar. That would just make me way too swampy.

Sorry about your SS Peavey amp deal; I wouldn't wish what I went through on anybody. Now the Peavey Classic tube combo, that's another story...not too shabby of an amp, really.

JoeB--You're the guy on the Hermida site sample with the Zendrive, right? Great playing! That was my inspiration to order a pedal from Alf. It's supposed to be here this week. I can't wait!

That's not me on the Zendrive demo -- though I sure would like to have one of those pedals.

And I'm willing to bet that he's one year older than me. :D
