I got my sound man to finally let me mic my amp instead of that lousy D.I.
I promptly went out and bought a Sennheiser e609 and can't wait until the gig tomorrow!
Anybody else using this mic? I had heard reviews were excellent and a friend who owns a sound company recommended it, so I bought it!! :)
Feedback anyone?

I use the e609 black version. I like the fact that it's basically idiot proof for placement. Quick and painless to set up and get a good sound.

I got the silver version and this may seem a bit confusing..It has 'FRONT' on one side. I am assuming that means that side faces me and not the front for the grill..? I am excited about this new purchase..its been a long battle over the lousy DI.
Thanks--Shaun

Front is the side you address, so that would face the sound source, in this case the guitar amp (speaker).

The black side will face out. The front goes on the amp.

I just drape mine over the face of the cabinet, lower portion of the speaker, kind of center between the center of the cone and the edge. I actually keep it in my gig bag!

So you want to use one of my Dr. Z amps tomorrow? I can bring it over to your Midlothian gig!

Oh yes I am VERY happy with it. Very flat repsonse and you DO NOT need a mic stand to use it. It really does work best just draped over the amp.

pretty much my mic of choice in addition to the sm57. very easy to use, no stand necessary and a good flat response. congrats on going with a mic'd cab vs di, night & day difference. btw, what cab or amp are you using?

Hey Suriel,

I am sooo jealous of that killer rig!
I am using a Peavey Classic 30 112. It has been a workhorse since 1995 (over 1500 shows) and up until this year has never failed me. I don't need a whole lot of power because my amp is more of a monitor, most of my sound goes FOH. The Peavey is plenty of volume, plus I am using in ear monitor. I just use the right side of my earplug and leave the left to hear my amp live.

I was using a hughes and kettner red box pro and my soundman finally agreed to let me mic the rig begrudgingly. Hopefully, he will listen objectively and see where he was wrong. Good to hear from you..

shaun, i'm very happy for you, because finally the foh will start hearing your "true tone." it's not an issue peavey vs carr or the like, it's an issue of your tone, coming out of your amp being translated correctly to the audience. unfortunately, many sound engineers want the path of least resistence (by no means am i saying that about your sound guy), but by using a direct out of an amp just doesn't do it. many amps come with "speaker simulated" direct outs that are tolerable for a quick fix, but certainly not desireable for long term. congrats and let the audience enjoy your true tone.
