I went to the club tonight that we're playing at this weekend. I looked at the amp, and I left it on ALL night since last night - with my slip foam cover on top! I stuck a fan on it and turned it off right away. It didn't' appear to have affected the amp at all, but I really freaked out. I really can't believe that I did such a stupid thing. I'm just worried that I may have damaged it...cause it was extremely hot.
Anybody have any input...?

i'm not a techy, but it was running all night on static load (no input load) vs. the dynamic load it runs during a show. that amp was nice and primed (tubes nice & hot) ready to be played. it was a good idea to add the auxiliary fan, but there shouldn't be any secondary effects other than biting a bit into the life of the tubes.

Ok thats what a friend of mine said. Just so long it didn't heat up to damage anything inside, but I don't think it did. I won't ever do that again. Made me aware atleast. Thanks Suriel.

I have an uncle. Was a tech guy at NBC Studios in Rockefeller Center from after WWII, till about 1990.
Anyway, you are not alone. I have done this too, although at home.
When I did it I called up the old Unc. Uncle says, "you know, not too many years ago all kinds of stuff ran on tubes and transsisters. All you did was wear a day off the tube life." Oh and he called me a dope cause all that heat could cause a fire.
You should be fine. Just don't call my Unc!

Many years ago, I left a SF Super Reverb on by accident when I went away for several days. There were no problems, but I do everything in my power to turn it off when I'm done now :)

I was rehearsing for a small worship service a few years ago, and my amp was sitting on top of a closed grand piano (on a blanket so as not to scratch the surface). We didn't have enough mics to put one on my amp, so I just cranked it up and leaned it back on a pipe wrench (makeshift amp stand), too engrossed in the music to see the giant red light blinking in my mind, saying, "yeeeaaaah...you've just precariously balanced a 40-lb guitar amp three feet off the ground..." So, I hit a big, open E power chord at the end of this worship song, just to be kind of cheesy, and the laws of physics took over, promptly sending my amp to the ground, landing on it's head on the floor, with a bloody scream from the reverb tank. Everyone in the band looked at me and backed up a couple of feet in fear of what I would do ( I guess my red-faced embarassment looked like steaming fury). I picked the amp up (a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe 112, if you must know), turned it off, and turned it back on. I grabbed a new cable, since the old one was ruined (top-mounted inputs), said a prayer, flipped the switch, and it came back to life, miraculously. It got me through the set that night, then immediately crapped out. I never liked that amp's tone much, but I must say it had heart.
