I'm playing down in GA for a show this weekend. I use a Line 6 DM4 gold box. The 3rd stomp switch started acting funny the other night. When I would hit it, the treble would be almost completely gone (It's programmed to be a nicely overdriven lead voice). Then I would click it a few times, and it would go back to how I initially set it up with the treble back up.

This got me thinking. I kinda want to go to some nice boutique pedals instead of this digital box. I'm thinking an OCD (heard one at a friend's house and loved it), a Keeley Katana boost (Already ordered), and maybe a Fulltone distortion...?? With my Dr. Z and the Katana, I'll have a sweet boosted clean lead tone, but I also want to have a good over-drive and a pretty good distortion. I know there are SO many pedals out there, but do you all have any input or advice? Even adding a 4th is a possibilty...

Thanks!

Guys are getting great results from a Zendrive (OD) and I just started using a Hellbilly (TrebleBooster/Dist./Fuzz) a couple of weeks ago and am really liking that. Additionally, the Jekyll & Hyde (visualsound.net) is a pretty cost effective and versatile way to get some usable OD and Dist. tones. Additionally, they can be cascaded together to be used as a solo tone as well.

+1 on Fulldrive 2, Sparkle Drive and Barber Direct Drive. I haven't tried as many of the boutique pedals as some of the other members of the forum (TOM), but I'm sure you can't go wrong with most of the ones people have already mentioned. When I do fly dates, I just use a Sparkle Drive and either the Direct Drive or the FDII. Ryan, I think you already have a FDII don't you?

Thanks guys for the info. Mike, ya I still have the Full Drive II and I love it. I think if this Line 6 goes, it will make it into the board. Looks like everybody around plays one, so I probably can't go wrong. I guess I just need to grab a few pedals, try em out and see what I like.

Anybody have anything for sale??

I play through a DR Z as well, a KT45. I also use a Katana - very cool pedal, especially with the volume that pulls. My overdrive is a Keeley-modded Tubescreamer. These two together work very nice for me - whether with single coils or hums.

Good luck on your search. With tone and oneness, Mike.

Has anyone used a SparkleDrive with the Keeley mod? I'm thinking about doing it. I think it's similar to the TS9 mod. More overall gain and better/more bass response. I'm kinda happy with it... I'm not sure it just greener on the other side of a Keeley Mod.

PS Anyone use the Keeley Comp or the Java Boost?

Ryan,

I just may have a pedal or two you can try. I think I've got an XOtic AC Booster that I'm not using and if I can round up all of the Sparkle Drives I have, I may have an extra one. I do have one with the Keeley mod and I like it. It definitely has more gain and more low end, but I just use mine for a very slight overdrive, so it's a little moot. The original ones are fine too and seem to have a little tighter cut in the mix. I'll look around the locker if I ever get back home to see what I've got left.

That is so cool for you to to check your extras, you really are a good egg.
I was told that the Keeley mod actually has a more gradual gain so there are more sutle tones with the gain control.
Sorry I didn't catch the Pechanga show. How did things go?.

I've always thought the Reverend Drivetrain pedals were very transparent overdrives. I used mine with an Evans amp and really liked it. It does compress quite a bit so some may not like that. I don't need it with my new amp, Dr Z maz 38 sr but I won't let it go! To me it sounds very natural having grown up using cranked tweed and blackface Fenders. It does have a little fizz or mist but they all do.
