This guitar is a CB Alyn Guitarworks Rosebud model. It was a joint project between luthier Roy Noble (http://www.gregboyd.com/noble.html) and guitar expert Craig Alyn Buzzart. The bodies and necks were originally milled by Tom Anderson at Tom Anderson Guitarworks.
This particular guitar is serial number 10. Not long after receiving this guitar, it was taken out to Tom Anderson’s shop and had an Anderson neck installed. The neck has the TA Standard back shape with 1 11/16th nut width. This guitar has also had the Buzz Feiten Temper Tuning mod done, and it plays in-tune all the way up the neck.
The pickup/preamp is powered by a single 9volt battery inside the control plate. Controls on the face of the guitar are Volume, and concentric Bass/Treble boost or cut. Body is Mahogany back / Spruce top.
Here’s what CB Alyn had to say about it when new:
“After years of collaboration with master luthier Roy Noble, CB Alyn introduces the definitive acoustic electric instrument. Rosebud combines tradition and innovation in a unique way, pointing a new direction for acoustic and electric guitars alike. The Rosebud guitar is alive. It is the kind of instrument that stirs the soul and inspires creativity. Our instrument's body, top and neck are mated to work as one integrated unit. You will notice an evenness of tone, volume and attack that is uncanny and unlike any other instrument you have played. The rare tropical woods that go into making the Rosebud are sourced from suppliers who are cooperating in sustained growth and reforestation programs. The woods we use are carefully selected for grain, color and stability by our master craftsmen. The Brazilian mahogany, Alaskan and Englemann spruce tone-woods are both air and kiln dried for many years. After drying the tone-woods are carefully matched to each other to bring out the best of each and to produce a sum greater than its parts. CB Alyn Guitarworks has developed a high gloss finish that rivals the colour and feel of the lacquers of yesterday, yet offers more protection and stability.”
“The Rosebud's innovative and patent pending top bracing system provides for even tonal balance and surprisingly rich acoustic response. Our proprietary conductive piezo film pickup delivers stunningly accurate reproduction through a conveniently placed volume control, as well as the unprecedented tonal flexibility of a proprietary modified 2-band active EQ. This system is versatile enough to contour any tone you can imagine. You'll find new tones and textures you never could find on any other instrument”
“The CB Alyn Rosebud model like most true innovations, is based on the deceptively simple concept of combining the best elements of existing traditions. The one piece body is 80% hollow, made of Brazilian mahogany. The top, like that of most hand-crafted acoustics, is solid AAA grade spruce from centuries old Alaskan Sitka or Englemann spruce trees. Take a careful look at our neck body joint: the necks are hand fitted to within a few thousandths of an inch. Our instruments are handmade by artisans one at a time just like it used to be.”
