View Full Version : General (Non-Anderson) Potentiometer Question

I need to replace a tone pot on one of my Fender CS Relics. When I go to the ACME Guitarworks website I find he lists a "standard" 250K pot and a "no-load" 250K pot. Anyone know what the "no-load" pot is? Which is the correct pot for a tone control?

No-load means the carbon strip is cut short so that when the pot is on "10" there is effectively no tone pot in the circuit at all. When a standard tone pot is on "10", there is still a small resistive load that passes some highs to ground. A no-load pot will allow those highs that were previously going to ground to make it to your amp. You may or may not like the effect. It might make your strat sound sterile. :p

If putting in a no-load pot could make the average Fender have "that sterile sound that Andersons are known for" there would be a major shortage of no-load pots! :D :D
