I got called to do a session last week for a singer songwriter guy. Wires got crossed, i thought it was an electric gig- they thought it ws an acoustic gig. I should have noticed the awkward silence as everyone was making trips out to the car to unload the various pieces of gear- NONE OF WHICH WERE ACOUSTIC GUITARS. :o

So since I was there- and getting paid regradless, we started loking around the building for an acoustic guitar. Never found one. So I plugged my Anderson HDTC into a PowerBlend pedal (which i think Brian B has one for sale on the board right now) and went straight in to the board.

It's a pretty good representation of what the PowerBridge sounds like except for the fact that the engineer asked me to "roll off the mids and lows and gimme more of the highs" -Sitting there, it wasn't too bad, but after the mix it sounds a little plinky.

Lastly, I don't think anyone ever built the Power Bridge thinking it would replace acoustic guitars in studios around the world. But if it sounds this good in a studio, Imagine what it sounds like on a live stage, going through a nice rig with subs to highlight the fullness.

ONLY THE SOLOS AND FILLS ARE ME, THE RHYTHM STUFF IS THE SINGER SONGWRITER.

Also, if you're interested in the one track I talked them into letting me keep electric stuff on (also the HDTC), it's here:

to clarify...was the rhythm stuff the singer with his acoustic or was it him on your Andy?

naw, the rhythm stuff was him on a huge Taylor jumbo. The frequency spectrum on that thing is ten miles wide and it sounds great on acoustic tunes. The Andy sound is convincing if it's coming through a hosue system because it has a nice zing like a steel string would, but there's no feedback issues and you can add electric at will.

I have Powewerbridge on my DT, and tryed it out on our Mackie, I plugged it straight in to the board with a stereo cable, I di not have the blender. I didn`t like the sound, it was to thin for me. I like the sound of it trough my amp, but it will never replace my Tylor accoustic, and certenly not for studiojobs! Tylor accoustic and a good mick in front is for me the best.

But if you seek a different punchy rythm sound, the powerbridge is fun.

Happy playing!

Your HDTC sounds ANYthing but sterile. What did you run it through on those tracks? Sounded good, man.

HDTC > Visual Sound Jekyll & Hyde (OD side) > Line6 Dl4 > Peavey Classic 20 for that electric track

Mic'd with a 57, 4 inches off the cloth/ just off center.

Love your tone, guitarzan! Nice tasteful chops! I also love that music! Is this guy a signed artist with a label or is he shopping? Great voice, nice writing!
You should be proud!

Thank you, Casper. The guy is super talented vocally. I've played on a few of his projects over the last three or four years but he has two problems that may keep him unknown: 1) a lack of confidence that spills over into a lack of motivation to sell himself (i.e. scheduling gigs, selling cd's); and 2)an abundance of friends who believe in him so much that they're willing to volunteer to do stuff for him. For instance, he has a friend who just graduated college who launched a record label just so this singer could have a label association. The graduate doesn't have any experience running a business or owning a record label, but he's got truckloads of desire, so who knows what'll happen.

Back to the main thing though- the singer is super talented. Right now he's a full-time worship leader in Vegas and a gondolier at The Venetian Casino so God's using his talents for good in sin city. :) In Vegas, he befriended an A&R guy from Sony, so they hang out socially, but he's afraid to wreck the friendship by trying to force business into the mix.

I would think a worship leader would have tons of confidence? I do know people like him though.
Let me know if this guy puts out a record..Good stuff!

corey, that was some really nice work. the powerbridge stuff was very impressive & credible. great electric work also. is that kip one of the guys that steve (from renaissance church) has worked with. btw, i like what you did with the webpage, great concept and not so generic. did you pick up paul's guitar? nice one.

Suriel,
thanks much fo the compliments! Yeah, Kip has been one of steve's "upcoming projects" for almost a year now, but steve's bottom line on a budget is quite a bit more than Kip has in <i>his</i> budget right now- so it may be a while before anything comes together.

Thanks for the compliments on the web page, too. I'm still struggling to learn a new kind of code (because I have to stay relevant if I wanna make any money during the days while I'm home with the kids) and it's still giving me some trouble on Windows-based machines. Everyone I know uses Macs so it's hard not to be angry at Bill Gates these days. :)

Also, I sent the final payment to Paul last night so the guitar should be at my house this week. I'm gonna play it for gigs through next weekend and then I'm probably going to see about swapping out the tv's for a couple of M's. Either way, I'm outta my head about this guitar. I can't wait.

corey, make sure you do that swap out of pup's. i just got mine back a few weeks ago with m1, m1 & tm2 and it rocks. the m1 on the neck with some nice od truly rocks. it has very, very fat straty-sound, i've been playing it nonstop. i just tracked some stuff for one of fred hammonds upcoming projects and i was very pleased. in addition, the worship band at the church just tracked some instrumental stuff and i used the t with m's very pleased. do it, you won't regret it.

Suriel, you got to play for Fred Hammond? That's definitely a dream gig of mine! Do you know who tours with him? He's a monster bass player and singer, and I've enjoyed his stuff for years.

joey woolfolk is his touring guitarist. they track most of their stuff in detroit, but they decided to change scenery looking for a different flavor and tracked some songs in nyc. they constantly track stuff, some of it makes on the albums, some of it does not get published, while other stuff gets published down the road.

Awesome. Do you know of any other really funky Gospel artists I would like?

Suriel,
I've tried the M's on a few guitars- one was a buddy's koa cobra w/ 3 m's and another was a nashville style HTC with M's and the third was an atom with 3 m's. All of them had the 5-way switch and there was no bad position to be found. I loved the sound of the tele and can't wait to get it set up and going so I can give my HDTC a few months off- but I think my favorite was the Atom. The only word I can think of that describes the tone was "girthy". And it wasn't muddy or overbearing, it was just syrupy, sweet, and full. Playing that Atom w/ those pickups- I was a believer. If I had money to burn, I'd probably buy one for every day of the week. :)
