I've been reading this thread with some interest since John C posted some info about the relationship between John Suhr and Tom. John's chimed in a bit with his own words. I was wondering if there were many inaccuracies in the thread or if it's all how it happened.

Here's (http://www.thegearpage.net/board/showthread.php?s=&threadid=80574) the thread.

Cheers,

Dave

that all looks pretty right. we did lots of necks and bodies for small builders back in those days, with lots of different headstocks. we found it more rewarding to do the complete guitars so we stopped the oem stuff in 1990 or so. someone can tell john c that i was around for some of that early wayne and grover stuff, though i heard most of it from one side so it may be somewhat tainted. lots of finger pointing going on back then. there was an interesting plan for uniting several companies but of course that didn't work.
feel free to pass this on to the other forum if it is apprpriate. between work, family and playing i can't spend time there.

No problem. If someone hasn't done so already I'll link back to this post.

Cheers,

Dave

P.S. I hope he comes up with a good book out of this. I would buy it. Unfortunately since the average guitar player probably doesn't know the difference between custom made guitars and OEM, I'm not sure how much of a commercial success the book would be. But there is a niche to be sure.

Tom,

I'm over here too - thanks for the information. From everything I've read - granted, this is all on-line - the Charvel vs. Jackson is where there is the most opposing one-sided information exists. At any rate, as a player I'm glad that people like you and John Suhr survived and are producing such great instruments. The economy might be a bit tougher, but we are still in this "second golden age" of smaller builders.

I don't know if I could ever take the time out to write a book (unless I ever hit the Powerball ;) ) but I would love to write an article on this for Vintage Guitar or some other publication. At the very least one of these days I will revive the project and find some place to blog it.
