View Full Version : Some colors shouldn't be used

I'm sorry, but in my not so humble opinion, key lime belongs in a pie plate not on a guitar. Check out this weeks GOTW. For some... taste is all in their mouth. :)

Hi MEP:

Sorry, but I don't agree with you, maybe it's not my favourite color, but it looks good for me.

With lights stage (I don't know if this is the exact word) I guess it looks cool.

I'd rock it. But I like outlandish color schemes. Besides there's also the fact that garish color schemes discourage loitering.

The more I look at it... the more I like it. I think it's got mojo!

I think all colors have their place. Say your getting ready for a show and you end up finding the perfect jeans and then the only t-shirt that is clean and looks decent is key lime colored...wala break out the key lime TAG. The real problem is we all need to make more money so we can buy more guitars. That's why my latest acguisition is a blackburst drop top...that sucker will go with just about anything. ;)

I think that every person has the right to chose their color. I am personally not a fan at all of some of the most traditional colors - tobacco fade, trans amber, etc. I LOVE the radical guitars with vibrant colors, etc.

The key lime was something NEW and fresh for me in a while. I would buy one if I had a lot of extra money...:)

This also makes each guitar unique to its owner. My guitars define me a bit with their color, design, and how I play them!

I guess I am just a boring traditionalist. Give me an amber burst on a flame or quilt top and I am a happy gueetar man. :D :D

i'm an earthtone guy myself, i have to be careful not to look at the key lime too early in the morning!

I'm fairly conservative when it comes to color but I say the more choices the better. Key Lime might not be my first choice (though I do think it's pretty cool looking) but it might be perfect for someone else.

I'm into the '60s colors but, many accolades to the "Keeper of the Stone" for pushing the envelope again.

MEP... you are not alone... though I would not have started this string... ... different strokes, you know!... some awesome players have some of the ugliest colour schemes on their gear, but they're happy (I didn't say a thing about EC!)... I tend to love that beautiful burst named desert sunset, but I only see a few of them...
hey Tom... can you name some of the most popular colours of the last ten years, say?

Don't like it at all, and I'm far from conservative.

10 years is a long time. it changes every few years. remember all those bowling balls in the late 80's? we'll query the data base today and let you know. my top guesses are: 3 color burst(wish i never had to do another one of those, sorry to the 3 color lovers.), tiger eye/ te burst, butterscotch, bora, burnished orange, natural because of crowdsters, t black, desert sunset.

Now, now everyone. Anyone that has ever been to South Florida knows that they use a different set of 64 pack Crayolas than the rest of the country. This dealer obviously has a customer base that digs the nearly natural colors. I would bet you that the guitar is already sold and Roy is going to have another order coming in today.

In Santa Fe, there are only 3 approved shades of tan you can paint your home. Right, andersonguy?

And to be fair, us Texans are funky too. If you went to UT, it must be a law that you have a burnt orange car, or at least a sweater. And I can't imagine seeing Austin limestone on a house in upstate New York. And we like our women to be just like our Classic Ts....blonde and lightweight. :D

Interesting table.

Does that reflect the "demand" as indicated by dealer orders, or do you paint most whatever colors you choose?

By the way I like the green.....my favorite Anderson is 7-up green

....wait, make that the blue one......noooo, maybe the brown one......

Red. That's it.

...i think......

Is it excel or something? You could do a screen shot (alt + PrtScn buttons (for the screen shot of the spread sheet), then then Ctl + v buttons to paste into an image viewer, then upload to web and post here as an image). You could email it to me, I'll do all that if you don't want to bother. (dkaplowitz @ gmail (dot) com)

I've never been a big green finish fan, but I actually like the key-lime color.

One of the great things about TAG is all the unique color choices they have. :)

if it's in excel, just save as html, then open that up in IE and then right click and view source, swipe it between the start and end body tags and paste it in... might work if you paste the whole thing too if thats too goofy for you.

Choice is good, It may not appeal to me personally but I appreciate it for being different. There is probably sombody out there who is thrilled with this color and will order one. Its kinda like the painted headstock/maple neck thing. Nothing wrong with variety.
Desert sunset and honey burst are some of my fav's too.

BrianH
04-27-2005, 11:20 AM
Having options is everything. A color doesn't make a guitar bad. Same thing with the painted headstock.
Personally, I think it cheapens the look of a otherwise fantastic instrument. But thats me, and I have a guitar painted like a Hot Rod, so what do I know about taste. Omiya has never let me live that one down.
It's all in the eye of the beholder, right?

jeepster, all guitars are built to order, so we don't choose the colors or build inventory. about 40% of what we do is ordered and spec'd for a specific person, the other 60% is for store stock, and the store decides what they want.

Tom, I just ordered my new HCobra S in Transplum..Can you tell me the difference between Cajun Magenta and Transplum? They look similar. I fell in love with the transplum that you have in the gallery, but then I see the cajun magenta and wonder if I made the right color choice? Any chance you or somebody has good pics of both finishes side by side maybe? the transplum in the gallery 5-12-02p is dark..

they are very different, but we hardly ever make the magenta so we don't have a good photo. the magenta is way more hot pink than the plum.the plum is darker for sure. the plum photo are good.

Not to hijack the thread...

but

What do you feel are the most "reactive" colors under stage lights?

I find that my favorite blues and reds turn different shades of dark grey under lights.......

What looks cool?

What some of you don't know is that back in the day Tom was Evel Knievel's greatest rival, hence the lingering pain from all of his injuries. Here he his in 1977 just seconds before he missed the landing ramp. :D
Lucky for us he retired his motorcycle and took up building guitars. ;)

Tom, Your head is HUGE, perhaps you should go see a shrink. LOL!! :p

Hope your shoulder feels better, those shots can do wonders but its temporary. Looks like no more of those Pete Townsend circular arm movements when your playing live. (or in front of the mirror)
