Does anybody have any info on the guitar that Taylor made (I think it was them...) that was made out of plywood to prove that the top really has a lot to do with sound?
Trying to find old threads or articles but no luck yet...
Thanks!
Ryan
they made the pallet guitar, but that is all solid wood.

That would be exactly what I am looking for...
Tom, do you agree with that statement, "it's the design and the builder, and not the wood, that define a great guitar"?
Thanks!

it was actually my grandfather who built me a guitar about 15 years ago of formica. the back, sides & top were made of resedential grade off-white formica. he added a cabinet handle on the top side to carry and a drawer knob at the strap peg. it weighs a ton and doesn't sound that terrible. i'll post pictures soon.
it's everything. you can't ignore anything. you need good materials, you need good methods, and you need to be able to execute those methods. it all matters, take one of the three away and you have an almost great guitar. almost is fine for lots of people, i'm not talking down anybodies stuff. my honda is not a porshe, but it is fine for me.

Good advice. :)

Wow, you have a Honda?

Nice car! Probably as much fun as the Chevy! ;)
my honda doesn't look quite like that one, but close. still have the chevy, but need to sell it.

If they truly believed the wood made NO difference, they wouldn't be using all the tonewoods they do in building a guitar. That's just nuts. For a limited run of something, it's fun. That's cool, but don't tell me it's going to sound the same as one made from rosewood and a solid spruce top!
Cool Honda pic. But I'm a Chevy man myself!

DaveK, That is just sweet. Looks like a bunch of girls left their phone numbers on the wipers.
I've always wanted one of those...one of the coolest cars out their. I could see Tom driving that...although I bet he would get sick of shifting.

Oh that is cool!
Bruce, I say we go in together on this one and then drag race Tom and his Honda down Lavery Court. First one to the finish line gets the gold Atom.
(Maybe)
If there's going to racing down Lavery Ct., at least let me donate a new Daytona Charger with a Hemi.

Do a search for "Torres Paper Mache Guitar". He had this idea a LONG time ago.
(This will NOT get you a link to any car or motorcycle, if you wanted that.)
