I'm also wondering about this. I have a '99 Hollow T Classic with tinted neck, and my brother has just received a '03 Hollow Drop Top Classic with no tint. My HTC has a darker look on the neck, but it also feels as if it has less finish... Maybe that's because my guitar has a lot more play-time on it, but I thought tinted and not-tinted felt the same..?
Also, both guitars have TA standard necks, no oversize... The neck on the '03 HDTC feels a little fatter, but I thought HTC and HDTC had the same standard neck... Could anyone please clear this out..?
I have a Hollow Drop Top Classic on order now (ordered with not-tinted) so maybe I'll have to change the order to tinted.
Thanks!
same finish, maybe .0005" worth of extra thickness. there is morer variation in wood sanding that that. my personal caution about tinted necks, if you really do play a lot, you will at some point wear through the finish. you will wear to the natural lighter color of the wood. you will also pay more at refret time to match the fingerboard surface.
can just the headstock be tinted if one desires?

What about the TA standard neck shape on HTC and HDTC? Do these necks share the same measures? The neck on my brothers HDTC feels fatter and more C-shaped than the neck on my HTC, and both have TA standard (no oversize).

hmm i'll take a guess.... from what i saw while i was there, there were two guys doing sanding, and the necks off the cnc were not "perfect" there was still a lot of sanding needing to be done, so that might account where they feel different, as i'm sure there is a variance from each one due to sanding.

they are the "same". like dave said, they get sanded.
you could get tint on headstock only. that would get treated like a matching headstock.
one more question before this dies. I have not been able to find the list price for the upcharge on vintage tint. Can someone let me know what that is?
retail is +$50 for rosewood fingerboard, +$100 for all maple.
thanks Tom. I'll add it to my list ; )
