Anyone ever tried a VA1 in the bridge position of a Classic? I'm just curious as I have a alder/RW Classic with Va1/VA1R/VA2 and I'm thinking I'd like to try a more traditional sounding bridge pickup. Then again I've always liked a vintage output bridge pickup on a Strat, unlike most who prefer a hotter bridge pickup.

Joe,
If you like the output of a vintage single in the bridge then I really think you would like the VA1 in that position. It's really the more traditional configuration.

Is there any difference between the sound of a regulat VA1 and the lower powered tap on a VA1/2? if not maybe I should put a VA1/2 in the bridge and switch between the two. I DO like the tone of the VA2 for some things, as it reminds me a lot of a Tele bridge pickup.

Hi Joe,
I called Roy at Anderson for you and asked about the VA12 thing and this is what he said:
I know just how you feel. And you are correct the VA12’s lower power sound is exactly a VA1—not just approximately. We originally created it so a player could have VA1 power in position 4 (middle + bridge) and a little fuller power—that was still very vintage—when played alone in position 5. But it would be easy enough—and fun—to switch from traditional to booster power in position 5 as well—very easy to do.

Thanks, Roy. Sounds like the VA1/2 is just what I need.
