You guys are Gassin' me bad with all this TAG talk, so I want to take my first tentative steps in here. I understand about going through a dealer to order, but is there a generic order form online I can use to send in to Magdon Music? I don't want to bother anyone unnecessarily until I have a good idea what to order. So, is there something so I can choose a model, something that lists available options, neck shapes, etc. etc.? I don't expect to order for a while, so getting a build slot is not that important to me. I can just check out the Anderson website, but are there options that aren't listed that you vets know about? Hey, hook up a rookie!
Sorry for the lame newbie questions, hope someone can help me out here! :D

The Anderson website has great descriptions of the models, woods and pickups. If you go to the home page of this forum there is a link which describes all the available necks carves.
You can also call Roy at Anderson and he will discuss (at length) the options available to you.

Stan,
Thanks, I've just been to the Anderson website, and I'll check out the link for the neck carve. I lusting (can you do that with a guitar? ) after a Cobra but it would be very much in the same tonal range as my McCarty and my upcoming Thorn. I think maybe a Drop Top or a Drop T would be better to expand the arsenal.

Ian,
Go for the Cobra (or hollow Cobra). They are great guitars. If you want to get further away from the McCarty sound, go for the P-90s. You won't regret it.

Ian, you can request that TAG send you a 2005 price list and catalog. It's very detailed with all the different options and up charges listed. You could spend days just looking at it contemplating your dream guitar. Enjoy :)

Respectfully dissagree here,
If you have similar tonal ground allready coverd and a Thorn on the way,
One of the drop tops will fill that tonal gap. I love them both for different reasons, probably the T for the comfort factor. They all sound great.
What wood are you considering?

Hey Ian,
Having JUST done this, I'll tell you my approach. (Duplicates other's advice, but hey, more time to enjoy the process.)
I looked at the guitar gallery, even when I wasn't set on Anderson just yet, for a lot of styles and links to descriptions: Guitar Gallery (http://www.andersonguitars.com/newsite/gallery.cfm) This was really helpful because it gives a nice range of choices available, and tells you what is available to order.
I called up Roy to talk about what would be best for me (I did have a pretty good idea, because it is replacing a guitar that hurts my thumb joint when I play and I wanted something similar). He was very helpful in listening and offering some advice. You may not agree with everything, but it is an excellent way to bounce ideas around. By the way, the neck was super important to me, and I found invaluable help here: Neck Carves Page (http://www.andersonforum.com/neckcarves/index.htm)
I copied the spec sheet from the latest guitar of the week. This got me most of the options at once. (You can see the options at the bottom of any page of the "Guitar of the Week" Page (http://www.andersonguitars.com/weekly.html)
I tried to go to my nearest dealer (not very close), and they weren't very helpful to me (didn't know the difference in the pickups, neck carves, etc. - at least who I talked to), so
I called up another dealer out of state (dealers are few and far between) that I have worked with before for gear stuff and we talked about setting up an order. (I ordered from Chris at Mass. St. Music (http://www.massstreetmusic.com/). Not to dissuade you from ordering through Magdon Music, they seem really great too.)
I then made a spreadsheet type document with all of the choices that I had to make still (HTC vs. HT, etc.) after talking to my dealer.
I read a lot here and everywhere else that would post an opinion about Anderson, and tried to listen to many clips of each. I managed to play a Hollow Drop Top that I thoroughly enjoyed. (Damn! Do I need one of those too?)
It finally came together, and I just put the deposit down earlier this week. It took me about 4 months just to think, decide, and play out options. (It might be a little less time if you absolutely know what you want, or if you have better access to a dealer with good stock. Then again, I knew I had to replace my Tele. Don't rush the process, or you might be selling it soon because it isn't right.) It seems like they are taking about 4 months or so to fill custom orders.
Good luck with your quest!

If you are anywhere near a dealer go and check one out. It would be worth the trip.

More good advice, I need to find out where my nearest dealer is. I will probably also email or call TAG to see if I can get a catalog/price list/whatever.

I really like this approach, my only problem will be finding an Andy to play. As much as I love the look of the Cobra, I'll probably steer away from it as it gets close to my Thorn. I have developed an emotional attachment to that guitar (and I don't even have it yet!) and would hate to see it not being utilized. I have my P90 jones equipped pretty well with a Fender CS Tele Jr., love that guitar!
Plus, it seems that the guys at TAG are pretty cool, and that is important to me.

If you like the p90 vibe you should consider the M's I have them in both my cobra and my classic great sounds. By the way where are you. you can look up a dealer om anderson's web site.
Just be prepared - after you buy one Anderson you'll be wanting another. And another......and another......and another! :)

IT IS AN ADDICTION. there was talk of a AA (Anderson Anonamus) 10 step program but that would take away all of the fun.

+1 There is no doubt.... bought my first in the fall of 2000, a HDT. Played that one for two years, decided I wanted a classic, so I ordered a HC swamp ash, maple board. Next came a HTC. Then a crowdster. Traded a Gretsch for a Cobra.... that's when I became doomed. That Cobra was absolutely awesome! Wanted a trem though, so I have a new one order, should be here soon (fingers crossed). I've sold that Cobra to fund the new one, but man am I having withdrawals! I'm barely holding on, but playing my new HDTC (similar to the very first, but a classic) is helping me through!

The thing is - no matter how hard we try to explain to our wives the importance of having different guitars, they always roll their eyes. How soon after receiving the latest Anderson do we start formulating plans for another? It is a never ending quest but it sure is fun, isn't it?

It is the truth, I have had my classic for just over a month. And am already thinking of a classic T in dakota red with M'S to match it. :D
