View Full Version : Couple of questions before getting a new order quote...
I am working through the grueling process of deciding what to order for this year. Right now it is looking like a early sixties themed Classic. Couple of questions...
There are a couple variations of Fiesta Red. What do I specify for the exact finish featured on Mark Goldenberg's Hollow T Classic?

Also, for the Classic with a VA1, VA1R, VA12 pickup configuration where the VA12 is a VA2 in the bridge position and a VA1 in the combo on the 5 way, is there an upcharge for this pickup scheme?
Thanks!

Mark's guitar is Standard (Aged) Fiesta Red. If you look in the Anderson Phot Gallery there is a New (Non-Aged) FR Classic that Tom built for Steve Carr from Carr Amplifiers.

To clarify:
The Anderson terminology for the Fiesta Red colors are 1) Fiesta Red and 2) New Fiesta Red. Fiesta Red is a color originally used on 1956 Ford Thunderbirds. The original paint used on earlier Strats had a tendency for the red pigment to fade so the color became a bit pinkish - this "Aged" color is often referred to as Coral Pink. This is what TAG calls "Fiesta Red". Eventually Fender found a way to prevent the red pigment from fading making the guitars color more stable over its lifetime - an Orangey-Red color. This is what TAG calls "New Fiesta Red".
Hope this helps.
my aged can of old fiesta red is fanally dried up to the point that is is unuseable. so the " new" will be standard. i just shot one the other day and it seemed like a nice compromise between the two.

Can you add a bit more white to the "New Fiesta Red" to get the original FR blend?
it is a different kind of paint, so i don't have tint bases for it. it needs a fleshy color to make it right, white does not make it salmon enough.

:(
How much for a new can?
about $80. is anybody seriously wanting the lighter color?

I prefer the lighter color myself. I would probably consider another finish altogether rather than go with the new version. I will keep looking through the gallery.

My first custom ordered Anderson was a Classic in Fiesta Red. When it arrived I was a bit shocked to open the case and find a Salmon colored guitar! I had it in my mind that the FR would be like all the pictures I had seen. Note that FR does not photograph well. In the Anderson Photo Gallery all the pictures I had looked at did not seem to indicate a Salmon like color but more of a traditional (NOS) orangy-red FR. A call to my dealer and then to Tom revealed that this was Tom's interpretation of Aged FR. Tom offered to take the guitar back and build me a new one if I was really unhappy with the color. Eventaully I sold the guitar and not long after that regretted it. Mot long after that Tom introduced the "New Fiesta Red" color. Having a LOVE for Fiesta Red I acquired a Suhr Classic done in NOS Fiesta Red (non-faded). Going full circle I acquired a used Anderson Classic in Faded FR which had literally the same specs as my original FR Anderson! I love BOTH versions of the FR color.

Hi BFC (Brian),
Don’t worry we understand your Fiesta Red dilemma—many guitar players go through Fiesta Red option overload. Just read Stan’s last post. Something will workout, it always does.
Anyway, on to your other question: There is a small up charge for the VA12 installed at the bridge. Your dealer can tell you the exact amount.

Just go for the Dakota Red. Really killer color my new classic is in that color and it just grow's on you. Add a few black racing stripe's at it would be set for the track.

brian, the finish always kills me too. on top of that i have a favorite finish, but i shouldn't have them all in the same finish. that said, in the new i ordered (ooops the cat got out of the bag) it has my favorite finish, but with a goofy spin to it. when it's done i'll share it with you guys. :D
peace.

That's what is great about TAG, they have so many fantastic finish options. :)
I recently placed an order and decided to venture away from my love for any shade of blue and go with translucent plum.
