From my observation the most common pickup setup in a DTC seems to be SA1R/SA1/H2+. Some questions:

1) How stratlike are the split coil tones?
2) Would the VA Series Pickups be a disaster in this guitar?
3) If the body was Hollow what would be the answer to the two above questions?

Well I have a Hollow Drop Top does that qualify?
My pickup are SA2R SA2 H2+ and sound great!
One thing you have to realize is that Tom Andersons split sounds are the best around due to the vintage voicing setup! when the pickups are split the volume actually sounds a little louder than the humbucking setting and the single coils sound that good very strat like,.
I don't think you would have a problem using the SA series pickups but I would go with what Anderson recommends for the hollow body guitars and that would be the SA series, it just seems to work!

had sevral -

Last one was a hollow classic - it had sa pickups and my DTC also had SA - good pickups - very warm in humbucking mode
and bright when split

The H series humbucker was bitching - I found for me that the SA's split very well but gave a modern as opposed to vintage single coil sound

think personally that teh va's wouldnt match up that well with a bridge humbucker - altho i prefer the va sound - also must depend on what woods are in teh dtc ?
