View Full Version : Genz-Benz El Diablo
I read a pretty good review in the recent Guitar Player regarding the new Genz Benz El Diablo 60 Combo. Anyone on the forum have experience with Genz Benz products? If so, please share your information.

I liked the one I played through. Pretty versatile, which often means it requires some tweaking. Having owned a few Mesa's (incl. a Mark 4), I have my pilot's license for such things. If you are used to plug and play gear, there's a chance you might miss the best parts of this amp, since some tweaking is required to get it right. The EQ is active, so keep the knobs at about 12 noon to start and make small changes until you get the feel for it.

I really enjoy the Genz Benz G-Flex cabs and have both the 2x12 and 4x12! I tried the El Diablo 100 amp but just found out it wasn't for me! I'm not one to go into details (something that I'm not good at) and I really like the company! very respectable people, so I suggest that you try it for yourself! I do have a few friends who own and love this amp so give it a listen and tell us what you think!
All the best!

I came really close to buying the El Diablo 60C a few months ago. The second channel channel, high-gain/overdrive, is really good. I was almost sold based on that side of the amp.
But I never did get a clean sound out of the first channel that I could live with. All of the sounds that I got were very sterile sounding. It was not warm. It was very clear and articulate sounding. Now for some people that may be just exactly what they want. But I grew up with blackface and silverface Fenders as a tone referrence.
I read the GP review. And while I do agree with 99% of it, I don't think everyone is going to find all parts of the amp to be perfect. If you want a really great clean sound, it won't do it. If you want a really great dirty sound, it WILL do that.
I almost bought it, but instead ended up with a Mesa Maverick. It has turned out to be the best thing to go with my Fender and Dr. Z stuff.
Just my $.02............
Thank you to all who replied. I finally tried the Genz Benz out and found the amp offered many different tones if you take the time to work with it. I really enjoyed how my Anderson Classic with VA's and my 'T' Classic responded. Equally impressive was how the m series sounded. The question remains though, will this amp compliment my MKIV and F-30 when recording? Once again, thanks to all who offered their opinions. :)
