Hi Everyone,

As promised in the intro section, I thought that I would ask opinions about what new Anderson to get. It would be really helpful to me, and you can all gush and post cool pictures about your own instruments.

I am playing a Fender Thinline 69 Reissue made in Japan. It has a maple neck, and a hollow mahogany body. I've had it since it was new (oh, maybe for about 15 or so years now) and it is a really great sounding guitar (okay, I changed the pickups to some Seymour Duncans). I like the "vibe" I get from it. The problem is that the neck is soooo thin from front to back, that my hand (in particular the thumb) gets sore from playing after short periods (mostly while doing chording work up the neck).

That said, I think I want something even more versatile. I have been talking with my dealer and Roy (yo!) and maybe want either a Hollow Drop Top T or Hollow T Classic. I sometimes salivate over the Hollow Cobra because mine is mahogany too, but I've been told that the T's are the way to go for me. I need a super-large neck, so I was thinking of a 62 roundback with 1 11/16" or a TA standard plus .070 or plus .100. (Anyone with one of these necks feel free to chime in.) I think the neck to have a rosewood fingerboard (or maybe an entire neck of rosewood!), because all of my other instruments are either rosewood or ebony. For pickups, I'm thinking about getting M1 M1 TM2 for it, to give it some girth but keep a nice clear focused sound.

I use the guitar a lot for blues, but also some jazzy stuff and some fusion type stuff. I only play out with my acoustic, but I'm thinking of adding a powerbridge so I can use the Anderson out too.

Any opinions or personal experiences are greatly appreciated. I'll keep the forum informed of my ordering progress.

Have a great guitar day,
-Garrett

I own a Hollow T with a swamp ash on swamp ash body, maple neck w/madagascar rosewood fretboard. I've never tried the M pickups, but have heard they're great. Mine has two of the H series humbuckers. I've played this guitar almost every day for a little less than 4 years now and it always sounds great. If you're looking for versatility, the Hollow T is the way to go. Great warm jazz tones, punchy bright country, hard rock...you name it.

Don't have a T, but have a Cobra out having a power bridge put in so can't chime in on that. But also just picked up a classic in alder with 3 M's and a 62 round back neck with a 1 11/16" neck i used to like thiner necks but my cobra has a tandard neck which is just fine. But when I grab the 62 it felt better than anything else felt like a new pair of gloves. It also has ta rosewood slab which I seem to prefere. But the M's are the way to go just think of a little fuller single coil sound kinda like a p90 but with no hum. Anything from great rock and blues to chinkin pickin clean. great way to go. My neck TAG sometime in the future will be a clasic T in Dakota red to match my classic and it will be with Ms also.

+1 on the 62 Roundback !!

It's a very comfortable neck IMO

This one slays me...

Very close to mine (ignore the Floyd, bit of a personal preference)...

Neck on this one is .50 over and it measures out the same as my Les Paul Historic Reissue 1960. That may give you a sense of size (if you've played a Les Paul).

Thanks all!

Jay, your guitar looks like quite a beast! I did like that NAMM model too, and I think the TM's cemented the idea of M's for me, because if I don't like them, I can always go back to the normal single coils. However, I was thinking about a humbucker in the neck anyway, so M's might be perfect.

I used to own a Les Paul Custom, but it was from the early 80's. I think I'd like a 59 neck rather than a slimmer 60's neck. Thanks for the nice comparison, though. I like the taper too of the 62 Roundback neck or else I'd probably spec out a TA standard +.100. Decisions!

Dont get me started on my Hollow T classic, I could gush for hours on end. I opted for the "Pete Anderson" neck which is just a tad smaller than the 62 roundback that I have on my DTC. To me this neck profile is perfect.
The hollow T is so versital and full sounding. I think you have made a great choice now to decide what kind of wood. Mine is Alder with swamp ash top, kinda the best of both worlds...

Good luck,

Richard
