on the 5 way switch , the positions 1,3,5 are standard tele SOUNDS and positions 2+4 ARE what?

they have less volume and less top end - so?

Ive always thought position 2 should be the 2 pickups in series to make a proto humbucker - that would be cool

I had it on an old tele once- really pokey!

I think thats what fender r doing with their S 1 wiring

1,3,and 5 are split, true single coils. 2 ansd 4 are single pickup humcancelling versions. stacks have lots of wire on them to try to overcome the out of phase coils, so they would be super dark if you put them in series with each other.
