Are there any negative aspects to displaying guitars using a guitar wall mount, such as the weight of the body on the neck joint over a prolonged period of time?
Also what brand of guitar wall mount would you guys recommend?
Thanks.

strings will collect grime from dust and so forth so they lose life quicker. the guitar just gets dirty in general, plus im always scared of something breaking so i just leave them in the case.

Like all guitar stands you need to be careful about having the stand touch sensitive finishes (like nitro). I have seen burns in the finish of nitro finished necks where the wall mount holds the neck. On all my stands (both wall and floor) I put strips of soft flannel so the guitar touches the flannel and not the "rubber" of the stand.
Brandwise I choose SwingThings. Have about 12 of them presently holding guitars on the wall.
room humidity or lack of would be the dangers, the case offers a better buffer against that.
Since you're out here in earthquake country, you need to keep that in mind. I keep all mine in their cases when not in use mainly for that reason.

Get yourself a hygrometer and check the humidity level of the room(s) you want to hang the guitars in,then keep an eye on it for a week. The climate you live in and how you heat your house is important to know.
I have ten String Swing hangers in one room and various guitars hang on them year round. The relative humidity is usually 50-55%,and other than having to dust the guitars I've experienced no problems over the years.
I know that when I keep my guitars in their cases, they tend not to get played as much.As good as they look,I like to display the art. ;)

Take it from a long time cigar smoker that digital is the only way to go with hygrometers. You can probably get a cheap one from a local tobacconist for ~$10.00 - 15.00, or check ebay and/or online tobacconists.

I tend to keep a couple guitars out on swing strings starting on Friday and thru the weekend as this is about the only opportunity that I have cracks of time to play them.
On Sunday eve, they usually go back in their cases :(
Ive got them high enough in "Dad's music room" to be out of harms way should my 3 yr old girl and my 95 lb golden retreiver venture in.

I got a bunch hanging on the walls all over the place.
I like em out all the time.....eye candy. Plus they're up and out of the way of the dogs, kids etc.
I'm now using the Hercules brand hangers - with the fingers that lock down to hold the headstock in place.
I have lots of the String Swing brand too...no locks to secure the guitar. I worried about that...but never had one fall off the wall.
I only had one guitar react with the rubber - a Hamer. It discolored at the contact point with the brown rubber (older String Swing). I cut the fingers off some cheap cotton gloves and covered the rubber with them. Never had a problem with the Hercules.
Son of A is right...they collect dust...but I figure thats why god invented paintbrushes. Works great to get the dust out of the strings/headstock/pickup/bridge areas.
Tom is WAY right about the humidity - you really need to keep an eye on that. I use some cheap digital units from Radio Shack - I think they were about $15 or so.... Humidity levels will affect the frets, the neck and the tone of your acoustics.

I've only had this happen twice (2 more times than I would have liked), one Grosh Retro Classic and a R9 RI 1959 Les Paul. With both I was lucky enough to catch it without permenant damage, a little guitar polish and some elbow grease and all was back to normal. I have been a LOT more careful since!

I've used both the String Swing and the Off-the-Wall brand hangers. I prefer the Off-the-Wall hanger. It's much sturdier. I've used them with my Nitro finished Martin, my Fenders and my '58-RI Lester for several years. Not a mark.
