With all the pickups on the market, I'd like to know how/why the TAG designs
came about and what y'all were shooting for. ;)
Seems like the one controversial thing I ever hear about a TAG is the pickups.
It's a love/hate thing with some players that like a more "traditional" style of
pickup. I've swapped pickups in my DTs many times, just out of curiosity about how much they're responsible for the "TAG Tone".
My Cobra 10-27-02P is perfect in every way and will not be messed with. :p

Just out of curiosity, what did you find out/ discover when you made the pickup swap? Any mojo in the pickups? Or, is it all in the wood? I would think that the combination creates a great guitar.
it started way back in the late 80's when we were all puting humbuckers in strat style guitars, and nobody made wide spaced humbuckers. i also personally wanted humbuckers that split better than the standard gibson style humbucker can. we made guitars for a few years with our own humbuckers and other manufacturers stacks. i was dissapointed with consistancy with what was available so we started making our own. it grew from there. someone wants more mids, someone wants more output, less output, more mids ,less mids... on and on.
i personally think the wood and construction style has more to do with what the guitar sounds like. the character is determined by the wood, and the electronics can enhance that. you're never goig to make a maple guitar sound like an alder guitar by changing the pickups.

After swapping 10-15 different buckers I realized how well the TAG pickups were voiced to match the guitars.
The reason I had so many pickups to play with was cuz I was trying to find a good match for my R57 GT LP, not because I was unhappy with how my TAGs sounded. ;)
I found the best way to dial in my TAGs is to play with pickup height, the load resistor for the VV circuit, and to change the tone control cap to 22n instead of the stock 10n.
Now if Tom would give us a few more clues about the new model, I could decide if I'm gonna get an M loaded Cobra or wait for the new one.
C'mon Tom!! Help us out here! :D
it is december, and all will be revealed soon. i do expect cobra sales be be affected by the new guitar.
