I've been playing my new Cobra S with M pickups a lot over the past week (gotta break it in! :) ). I really like the M pickups. To me they do clean sounds better than most humbuckers but at the same time do fatter overdrive tones than most single coils. I also notice I'm using the tone control more with the Ms than I normally do with other pickups. There are lots of nice tones to be found throughout the range of the tone control.
I think the Ms are about the best pickups I've heard that break from the traditional single or humbucker designs we're all used to. They don't sound exactly like anything else I've heard, but they do sound great. I just wanted to add my name to the already long list of M pickup fans!

My M-Pickup equipped HDTC is due in January, I'm getting very excited just listening to the continual praise the M pickups get! Can't wait until I can try mine out. :D

I hope they are as good as everyone says. Suppose to look at a HDTT with m's in it today. :)

Agreed-great pickups. I also used the tone control a lot especially on the M3 bridge pickup. I do prefer a humbucker on the bridge, but the M pickups on the middle and neck positions are indeed very tasty!

Brian B-
Time to change your avatar again? And I thought I turned over my Andersons fast. :D

It's a Gas thing the Cobra is great just a little neck heavy for me. This whole pain in the back issue really get's to the playing.

Joe,
I agree with your praise of the Ms. I have a Hollow Cobra the same color as yours and love all the clean funk tones it has. I'll email you some pics.

Here is something you don't see often around here... :D
This is my Thorn Artisan Deluxe. So, umm, check the pickups. Bona-fide Anderson M1/M1/M3 with the B5 Anderson Electronics.
This guitar sounds so unique it is impossible to describe. It does a fatter than a single coil, no mud or murky humbucker, no-grit P-90 strength tone.
Sweet as pie.

Thanks. I post it so folks can see you don't have to *just* use M-series pickups in Anderson guitars and in the hope that Tom and crew see it, even if they don't comment on it, because they were so cool hooking Ron Thorn up with the pickups and wiring rig (they are pretty close to each other geographically). Also, props to Jack Gretz for doing the deal for me on the retail side of it.
There are more than one way to..... rock. :D And all the folks involved on this guitar, even in a small way, deserve MAJOR props. Once in a lifetime guitar for me.

YUMMM, Koooooooooaaaaaaaa! :D
Love the M series. They somehow take everything I like about singles and everything I like about humbuckers and put 'em together while leaving out what I didn't like. Amazing stuff and I'm hooked!

Brian,
Can you tell me what your "single coil likes", "humbucker likes" and "dislikes" are? My "sc likes" are the clarity and articulation. My "humbucker likes" are the power and depth. "Dislikes" are single coil hum and humbucker mudiness. I have a HDTC with 3 minis on order and am hoping the setup matches my likes/dislikes? From your observations, am I on track?
I think you have it nailed down pretty well if by articulation you are referring to the feel. I prefer the feel of a single coil and the M series leans more toward the single coil camp in this regard. Humbuckers generally feel more compressed and therefore do not seem to be quite as interactive with my technique.

Just picked up the HDTT man those M's are killer, jsut played for the past 2 plus hours. The cleans are as good as everyone say's the Bridge can do great chunk and when you split it, it cleans up even on a dirty setting. Been playing it thru the Pod xtl And using the Blues Ballad setting with a few minors tweaks. I'am hooked on the neck then adding the bridge back in with it split. Just a great full tone. :D
