I've got a HDT: Maple top with alder backing and rosewood fretboard. HSS 5way.

I have a chance to get a great deal on a newer Classic: Solid alder, maple board with VVV.

I really like the sound of my HDT but am hoping the Classic will give me a fairly dramatic difference in sound. I have absolute confidence it will sound great but am trying to narrow down where this greatness will lie.

All opinions welcome.

Thanks.

Paul

I have a similar spec HDT. Classics with traditional single coils do sound different. I don't think you would be redundant in having both. The Classic will you get you more traditional- dare I say "vintage"- sounds. Thumpy bottom, grainier mids and glassier highs. The HDT is a more refined and modern sounding guitar with no frequancy area out of balance. The Classic with singles will give you lots of peaks and valleys across the full spectrum, and a bigger dynamic range. More noise, too.

You can PayPal me the two cents if you cover the fees.:p
