Hello,

I am new to this forum. I'm considering my first Anderson purchase. I've been thinking about a Hollow Cobra S for various reasons. If anyone has one or played one, please fill me in on your general observation of the tone. Obviously pickups play a roll. But, I'm interested to find out what I can expect from hollow chambers on the Cobra S.

Also, how drastically different, tonally speaking, are the Cobra and Cobra S?

I would tell you what I am hoping for, but I would like the response to be as objective as possible.

Thank you!

I currently own 2 cobra s's and used to own a hollow cobra s. The hollow cobra s has a softer, rounder attack, less pronounced mids compared to the solid cobra. The hollow cobra s is sweeter and smoother while the solid cobra s is more venomous. For my tastes which leans towards rock and metal, the solid cobra is the better of the two guitars as I like the punchy thick mids of the solid cobra.

I'll second what Pluto said and add that I found the hollow to have a little more sparkle in the highs compared to the solid. I like both but I prefer the solid.

The funny thing is on the Alder back 25.5 scale Andersons I lean toward the hollow. The best thing to do is try out a hollow and a solid and see which you prefer.

Thanks for the replies.

I ended up buying a used Hollow Cobra S on Ebay last night. I didn't think I would ever buy a guitar on Ebay, but I did it anyway. The pickup combo is H01- and H01+. I am hoping for a nice smooth, thick and round tone that is not overly concentrated in the mids. My tonal preference (when not playing single coils) favors mahogany in a short scale, with not too high of output pickups and a slightly overdriven tone. So, it seems like it should be a good fit. I'm expecting good things as all Andersons I've played are really great. I can't wait to get it.

I'm glad I found this forum. Thanks.

I think for your tonal preference what you bought will be a good fit. Welcome to the Anderson club! (now be prepared to want more :D )
