scott's guitar got me thinking. yo Tom, have you ever made any cobras out of black limba? if so, what were the results...
i posted it elsewhere, but i'll do it again. i made two guitars as identical as possible except for the bodies. theya re both the same weight though. one limba, one mahogany. both sounded nice, but the mahogany wa bigger sounding for me. the limba has a softer top end and the middle does not project as well. all that said, i could play them interchangably at the gig without changing settings. i also have a hollow cobra that has limba body ad neck that i made many years ago. it has a little more of the ash properties to it. that one was very surprising to me. not at all what i expected. i personally am not persuing it as an alternate wood, not that it is bad, i just like mahogany better. i have not heard the mojo that others speak of. a word of caution and care here though. i don't believe you can judge a species basd on two or three guitars alone. i have three more pieces of spalted limba we could make guitars from if anyone is interested. it is 2.45 lbs. per board foot making it nice and light.
