View Full Version : Bobcat Special - Just Curious About Bridge
Hi Tom. I was just curious about why you got away from the one piece bridge and went to two piece on the Bobcat Special. Thanks.
there is an inherent problem with every wrap around intonatable bridge we have tried over the last 20 years. and it does not always show up during the assembly process. the saddles rest on their 2 shoulders on the bridge body, but sometimes the intonation screw keeps one side for resting which creates a rattle. it may be fine in one saddle position, but even a slight intonation adjustment will make it rear it's ugly head. every manufacturer says they fix the problem, and schaller's last attempt was beautifully elegant, but still had the problem. so after 20 years of trying i gave up. a non adjustable bridge would not have the problem but then it would be non adjustable, which for me is a deal breaker. once you've been gloriously in tune it's impossible to go back.
the other alternative is the hardtail 6 piece bridge we use on other models. it's proven reliable and works wonderfully, but it does not look like what people want to see, and the eyes are powerful judgement tool.
Yeah, looks are always a huge factor. No way around it. Thanks for the info.
