I think a cracked finish lets the wood breathe and resonate better. I have 2 Strats which have the finish cracked but not reliced and they resonate like crazy.
I'm interested to know more about Tom's take on it.

Wow!!! Honestly never thought I'd see the day. Personally, I fall into the camp of liking the relic aesthetic as long as it is done tastefully and includes the neck and headstock. I am VERY interested in TAGs version. I trust Tom and family in everything that I would purchase sight unseen.

I may have to order a distressed T Icon in 2018!!!
