About 20 years ago I switched the stock H2+ in my '92 Drop Top (maple/basswood body, maple/palisander neck) for a H1+ since I wanted more clarity and string in the sound.

Sometimes I think about going back to a hotter pickup, but after playing the H1+ I usually dismiss that thought. The H1+ demands some digging in, controlled attacking of the strings and vibrato but it's rewarding.

Anyone else that's using the H1+ in the bridge?

The sounds I'm after are 80's LA session tones, Landau, Huff, Lukather, Neil Schon, 80's AOR/hairbands...

Have not used the H1+ in bridge but have used the HF1+ in bridge and had great results (at least one other guy on forum used HF1+ in bridge) I eventually switched to an H2 in bridge (I don't like the H2+)

that's always the trade off with pu power, definition vs. smooth sustain.

you might try an HF series hb as they do have a different character which in some cases, depending on the rig, keeps the low end in control while still having enough juice to make single note line sing. i'd probably do the HF 2 based on you style requests. those guys were all mostly playing hot pickups with lots of gain in their rig.
