Guitar Tales, posted today.
Believe it or not I take your red one over that BUT that guitar is all kinds of wow
I think caramel maple would have looked better.
The body oozes warmth that caramel would compliment nicely.

Tom, Do you ever blow your self away? I have looked at this picture many times as I do my own cobra and I just like wow. You see so many guitars and play every single one. Do you ever just shake your head and think wow what a beautiful instrument or wow this one is just extra awesome
i have seen so much great wood over the years that i am somewhat immune to it's attraction. but i do still giggle at a great sounding and playing guitar. the more plain ones tend to get me more because they don't have the distracting fancy looks. that doesn't mean i don't appreciate a great piece of wood, just that the sound and feel are so much more important to me as a player. playability wise i think we do a darn good job at consistency, so that's never really a "special" thing for me. some combos of wood and pickups just ring my bell and make me not want to put the guitar down.

I prefer the look of a plain top, knots and all. Well, maybe not on a strat style guitar.

Hmm...I'd have gone Chocolate Maple neck and board on that myself.
Jeez, I'd just like to spend the afternoon in Tom's amp room!

lol distracting fancy looks is funny Tom. I have owned two Dt and two cobras. The fancy tops almost make me worry a little more about playing well. In the back of my mind it is as if I think folks are going to be looking at that guitar you better play that thing. When I got my first TAG my goal was to have only fancy topped guitars since I never had them before. Now I am more than happy to be playing classics

I think chocolate would be too dark. Caramel would compliment the tones in the figured top.

+1 on the caramel as companion.
Tom must have seen such a multitude of guitars since the beginning that 'comfortably numb' may be the current reaction to fanciness. Especially since he insists on playing each one before it goes away.

I can imagine the chocolate it kind of matches the edge of the guitar. But Caramel is def the winner here

I think the maple neck on the guitar ties in well with the natural binding, the pickup rings and covers and the switch and vibrato arm tip. That would be my choice.

Yeah, well...YER ALL WRONG!!
Woah...better have my coffee before posting. :o;)
I think the Chocolate would bring out the darker aspects of the delicious Quilt Maple top, while the cream rings and covers highlight the lovely binding and lighter bits of wonderfulness. So, you know...when I order mine (cough cough)...whatever! There's certainly no wrong answers here!

I think it looks great with the maple, but agree with you about the darker aspects. For comparison, here's my Melancon Artist T with a Brazilian Rosewood neck.
