View Full Version : Hardware Swap on 97 Classic: Gotoh bridge / tuners?

Hi all,
I'm thinking of swapping the gold hardware in my beloved 04-15-97N Classic to chrome / nickel / silver / not-gold - you get the idea.

Why?
- for the looks
- the trem arm was cut off by a previous owner and is pretty short
- the guitar could sound a bit brighter

What?
If I'm going to do this at all, I'd like to only do drop-in / easy-going changes. IIRC I have a Gotoh 1088 with screw-in arm.
Now tons of questions for the experts:
- Which other Gotoh will fit? 1055, (another) 1088 and 1099?
- Even Fishmans?
- Are there different versions of the trems? I have a 1088 with solid saddles, not the vintage ones. When I look up a 1088 now, they all have the vintage style saddles ...
- I would definitely not want to touch the guitar woodwise, I'd welcome a slightly brighter sound but I'd not like a narrower string spacing - any recommendations what to go for?
- And, talking of all the hardware: what other (dunno what I have now, it's the ones with that slit for locking on top) locking-type tuners would fit without drilling?

Thanks for your help.
Greetings from good ol' Germany!
Tom
