Played a Bulldog at my local shop. Great guitars. As usual the neck isn't my preferred carve but it was great to finally be able to check one out in person. I really like how the bridge and the pickups are sunk down into the body, very comfy.

Anyway, between that and talking with Roy on the phone about the details of the forthcoming Bobcat I threw down a deposit on an order. So now we play the waiting game...

BFC, How did you spec out your Bobcat? Hopefully mine will be finished next month!

It'll have a maple carve top, HC1 neck, HC3 bridge, 3 way (down by the knobs), one volume, two tones, 60's vibe neck shape. Those are the basics. From talking with Roy I had the impression that it will be surprisingly similar to the original Bulldog but different enough to keep the lawyers at bay (hopefully!).

How do you order and spec out a guitar you've never seen? Just going with faith that you'll like it?? Did I miss something somewhere? G

roy has sent out a few previews of the guitar to people thinking about ordering. also some after hearing the description about how the bulldog has been changed have also just gone with it. i may have a pic tomorrow of the one trans black carve top we built a couple weeks ago to show you all.

I am perfectly ok with a pic via PM that I won't share. Tom's post made me think that the two guys on this thread who have onr ordered have already gotten a pic. PM me boys I want to see :D

No pic for me but after talking with Roy, it sounds like a winner. The impression I got was basically if you liked the Bulldog you'll more than likely be happy with the Bobcat.

I really need to make it a point to get down there for a visit. I think there is a direct flight from here now. Sounds like the perfect vacation for a single guy guitar nerd.

How different was an atom ct from a bulldog?

When asked before, I think Tom said that if you had your eyes closed and the same wiring harness in each, they'd sound basically identical. Same amount of wood, obviously different control layout standard and slightly different shape. I also never saw an Atom with a 3+3 headstock, but now I'm so used to this that I think I might find that odd.

I'm guessing a Bobcat will be Atom-ish in shape, perhaps available with either the LP-style electronics layout or the 5-way plus 1-vol and 1-tone. and 3+3 headstock.

All I know is that imho, the Atom CT needs no improvements whatsoever! So there's that...

Just saw it. I like it quite a bit. The differences are actually fairly subtle at a glance. But closer inspection reveals some cool refinements.

Basically the Bulldog lives on in a slightly modified, more refined, less lawyer attracting guise. Based on what I've seen, for my personal tastes I like it better and now I'm actually glad I waited.

Just saw the picture and I dig it. There are enough changes to make it different I think but it still keeps the Bulldog vibe. Bravo Tom, thanks for giving me more gas that I can't afford.

Well latest would prob be with in a month based on the fact that one of the guys has one on order and it is due next month so by that time the cat will be out of the bag (see what I did there? :D )

Except it will be metallic amber on the top with binding, trans amber back, trans amber satin neck back, and black headstock face. Cream pickup rings and nickel covered HCs and nickel hardware. Oh and amber knobs. That's a lot of amber. :cool:
