With all due respect to the owner of this forum and my own personal Anderson dealer, I just got back from NYC tonight and saw a nice stash of new Andersons at Manny's. Since you can't see them on a web site, this is a public service announcement for those in the 212.

Couple of M equipped Cobras, one in Cajun with a black back. Can't recall the other. Couple of P equipped Cobras, one is a triple and the double P Cobra is Ruby Slippers. Nice Orange metallic Classic T with 3 pickups. Some Drop Tops too. Nice one in Trans Teal.

Anyway, for those looking, there's my report.

Does Manny's still "shadow" you around the store? The couple of times I was in there a sales person followed me around the store like I was trying to stuff a Les Paul in my pants!:D Other people have told me this is the norm. The sad part is at the time I was in my late 30's and was dressed in a business suit since I had just come from a business meeting!

I go there a few times a year because they always have so many Andys in stock. Their prices are way high (they're in downtown Manhatten, whaddya expect?!?).

I've never felt that way. They usually make contact and come by from time to time like they should.

Now you want that store-security-guard-just-waiting-to-catch-you feel? Go to the boutique place across the street (48th street Custom Guitars???). Jeez. You can't touch the counter glass there without getting yelled at. I went in once to check out a Fender Vibroverb. The jerk wouldn't let me touch the TONE controls!!! No kidding!!! I gave him back his POS relic and walked out.

WOW! I grew up in the NYC area. I get back there quite often. I never had an issue at Manny's or 48th St Custom. Or any of the shops for that matter. I have played some pretty expensive stuff too.

New Yorkers are an interesting lot. It is often about attitude. You probably just got in there on a bad day for someone.

Interesting thing about Manny's I have not ever seen them have a very good Andy selection, yet the other shops on 48th, and the place over on 9th ave, (the name escapes me right now), seem to have a better selection. Nice selection of Suhrs too. In fact I made my decsion to buy Andy over Suhr from playing many of both models while in NY.

Anyway, have you been to 32nd Street guitars? Or Chelsea Vintage? I really like those joints for a taste of some vintage vibe!

AG,

The truth is stranger than fiction.... 2 years ago the local music store reported the theft of 5 G&L guitars during business hours. The guitars eventually popped up on eBay and the local police tracked down the culprit. Turns out he wore those oversized pants that the kids where and smuggled them out one at a time over a 3 day period. I really have to quesion who was dumber, the thief or the store employees.

When I was living in NYC in the 70s, I went to Mannys and asked to try out a guitar. The salesman said if I try it I have to buy it. That was the last time I went to Mannys. Sam Ash, Rudys, Alex Music, and We Buy got all my business.
