Hey folks, is there a point in time after which all Atoms are CTs vs. the original "flat top" Atoms? If so, when did the change occur? Thanks.

Thanks Tom. Any difference in tone that a normal human would hear?

I can describe an Atom CT to you. It's very Les-Paul-ish, but with a little more bite, and when you split the coils you are REAL close to tele territory. But mine is a (very unusual) hollow one, so maybe a little more beef can be found in a regular Atom CT.

Tom said at one point that if he made a Bulldog and Atom CT with the same electronics side by side they'd basically sound the same.

I'm guessing Atom NON-CT is a little different.

here if you want to drool...

I'll actually be making some youtube clips of this through my Helix sometime very soon.

yes, the ct has more mahogany and more maple, so it's got a stronger fundamental, more beef. the atom is more like a cobra except the tunamatic gives that softer attack and lower tension feel, less snap than a cobra.

Thanks, it looks like Tom agreed with your assessment in his post...(wait, had to wipe the drool from the keyboard)...below. Thanks!

Good description. I get it, thanks Tom.

...the atom is more like a cobra...

Now... again... I wish I had one of each! I LOVED my Hollow Cobra I had for years.

based on your love of the Atom and this description maybe you need a non CT Adam (this coming from the guy with a cobra hehehe :D)

I know... right...?

But no more guitars for me. No room in my office, my budget, or my life... I have my favorite guitars I've ever owned, got my tele exactly the way I want it now, and I'm not a string-breaker or a collector, so two electrics, the Crowdster, and an acoustic... plenty...

I can lust, though... right...?

I thought we were not supposed to lust? Eh lust away my friend. I sort of have to many guitars but still need a Suhr contoured T and a modern bridge (no 3 saddle for me) a short alder raven and Bull Dog or what ever Tom replaces it with. A short classic and or classic contoured T would rock to but then I may have entered into greed territory lol

part of me would really like a guitar with a trem, and if I found the right one, I'd probably ALMOST trade my Classic T for it... but... only if too many conditions to be met were met... 60s vibe neck, 3 noiseless pickups, nashville wiring, etc... I've become really very picky about way too many things...

So, really, when I need a little trem I just wiggle the neck...

Curious. What is it about the tune-o-matic that makes it feel lower tension?

there is much less downward pressure on the saddles with a tom bridge.

60s vibe neck.
Mmmm 60's vibe!!! Had a guitar with that profile. I love larger neck profiles. My Short Drop Top Mongrel had a HM +30 That neck shape is hefty as well

1 5/8" 60's Vibe, low rise frets. Doesn't get any better for these nubs.

My Classic S has the 60s vibe neck, love it, huge advantage on bends. The Happy Medium is beefy enough to work for me too.
