View Full Version : Fret protector strip
Tom, do you guys buy those black fret protectors or is that something you make in house? I was wondering if there was a source that might also make some for a bass fingerboard.
we make them here. Roger Sadowski has his made by allparts I believe, so they probably have them available.

yes I have ordered fret protectors direct from the AllParts site in the past. Not very expensive either :D

Why do we need fret protectors if stainless frets are very hard?
In case of a hard knock in shipping would be my guess. Impact causing the strings to press violently against the frets is much different than normal playing wear and tear.
I wanted some for my basses for during transport when they're in a gig bag because they don't have stainless frets. Once they end up needing a fret job, I'll be looking into stainless for sure.
The Allparts strips showed up. They will work perfectly fine but they are much more flimsy than the ones Tom makes.
stainless is still not as hard as the plain guitar strings.

My guess is they would still distribute the force of the impact though.
