Cobra String Alignment

Don't get me wrong, I love my Hollow Cobra, and you can't have it.
But I've long wondered about this - Why do the strings not align over the poles of the neck pickup? Did it just work out that way? Does it matter?

like strats and all gibson guitars ever made, the pole piece spacing on the pickups is the same, but the E to E spacing is not because the neck width tapers.

with the big poles and softer magnetic field of our humbuckers it just doesn't matter so we never bothered to tool up a different spacing for neck and middle.

for our pq's and ph's we did widen the tradtionally narrow width on the p90, but again did not feel there was a need to do two different spacings for cosmetic sensibilities.

for our mini humbuckers we did since we were starting from scratch anyway and there was no cover to deal with.

the curious thing is that leo did do it on the tele which came before the strat. i suppose he didn't want to incur the expense on three different bobbins and covers, or maybe he didn't care.

LOL. I know.
My only problem is that despite that very disturbing design flaw that I have to look at everyday, it's one of the best sounding dual humbucker guitars I've ever played.
I guess I'll have to continue to suffer with it.

That is all in your head. If you find a guitar where the pole pieces are lined up right with the strings you will toss that Tag to the side because you will have found everything you have been missing
