Pretty much a question for Tom: How do you decide which particular pickups go into a guitar? Do you just vary it based on a range of selections, or does the actual tonal qualities of the guitar come into play, or some other reasons? For example, you build several Cobras; one gets H1-/H2+, another HC1/HC2, and another maybe HF series. Just curious....?
It depends on what the user is looking for the guitar to do.

I see, so it's really more of a made-to-order situation. I bought my Cobra from dealer stock, so I was kinda wondering.

pretty sure the dealer picked something he thought people would want to buy.
all guitars are built to order. some are spec'd by the end user, some are spec'd by the dealer based on what they like or think their customers will like. we try real hard to not let anyone do something that doesn't make sense. we are always happy to be part of the discussion.
